The purpose of meditation is not changing you to a different person, a new person, or even a better person. Awareness and getting a healthy sense of perspective is the main purpose in meditation. Trying to turn off your thoughts or feelings is not easy, so you should learn observe them without judgment. And finally, you may start to better understand them as well. Do not forget proper breathing is really important for mediation.
If you are just starting out, I recommend you meditate for anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes every day. You can start with even less. Maybe try it for 1 minute in the morning. And when you can sit still and relax for that long, move to 2 minutes.
Anywhere that is your favorite place because they are safe. Such as home, park, church, temple or even at your car.
Before breakfast is generally a good time to meditate. But for beginners, especially people who are feeling stressed out, meditating at all can be useful. In that case, I recommend simply putting your attention on slower, deeper breathing—even for just five minutes—early in the day before getting busy with anything.
